I'm a college grad and I've been doing temp work to find something I can depend on for money but to enjoy it as well. But I got a permanent job now and I'm thankful. The first fandom I immersed myself into was Asian cinema or rather films of Hong Kong. I even went to Hong Kong twice, and also met Jackie Chan and director John Woo. With the advent of DVD me and my friend were swimming in a sea of HK cinema. I'm still collecting HK movies.
Around that same time I discovered anime at a Suncoast store and tried it out. A couple of years later I found Cartoon Network and other stations and discovered shows like Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. I was hooked. About a year later I attended my first anime convention, and wore my first costume. With a growing circle of friends, and a plethora of anime series, going to cons and cosplaying has become a year round hobby in my life.
When I'm not working of course I attend several anime conventions around the Northwest and the Western region of the U.S. I work for anipike.com as a HK movie reviewer but also as a con reporter and even have my own little production company called Ani-Maid Productions. Within the last year ('07) I got a high quality camera and I've become a novice photographer of cosplay and other things, learning as I go along. I perform either on stage or in the halls at conventions playing anime music under the name Ani-Music Unlimited. Thanks to new friends besides the regular cosplay, CROSSplaying was a new exciting option to try at conventions. It was quite a challenge but I've gotten the hang of it and I scare some of my friends because I like to be accurate.
I now live on my own in Seattle, WA but with a special roommate, so life is great. It also helps my roommate is also into anime/manga and cosplay! Away from conventions, friends and cosplay life was kind of dull, but not any more, in fact I'm so busy now it's almost too much. I could stop doing stuff but then I know I'd miss it. Just got to take it easy, because I AM happy. I love visual stuff--movies, TV, animation and music. I haven't appreciated reading as much as I should, but reading manga is a good start and it's expanding my horizons. Writing or rather expressing myself non-verbally is what I'm good at. In person I may be shy but when you get to know me I open up, but get me to writing or something else and I won't stop--I have a lot to say, in my own way.
Other unique things about me: I can read, write and understand some French. Also after watching HK movies for 12 years I've picked up some Cantonese, not to mention some Japanese from watching anime for more than 10 years. BUT my Spanish ain't too good...
Besides conventions, I had a monthly cosplay workout with Gasukan, a local gathering held locally almost each month in a different location. Lately though those gatherings are a bit disappointing and too much for me, so I'm not to keen on them anymore. I'm still cosplaying though, and in fact me and my girlfriend have started doing our own private cosplay shoots--the way WE want to do them.
What I can't express with my voice I can with writing, playing music, photography and most importantly...through COSPLAY. That's why I'm on this site!
Music: I currently have 2 music projects. The first I founded back in 2003 and later named it "Ani-Music Unlimited" in 2005. I play guitar and friend Hector plays sax, and we do a collection of anime/game music instrumentals. We've been guests at cons and played in the halls as well for fun, and even made some money!
The 2nd project is very exciting: a full-on rock band covering anime theme songs. We're fans of Bleach so we named ourselves Soul Candy. Soon we'll be playing at local anime conventions! Stay tuned!
Also important to note: only a few of my costumes I have made or put together myself. Others are purchased online. For a while I thought I would run out of ideas, but thanks to my good friendship with Kumi-chan, and our shared enthusiasm for Rumiko Takahashi titles among many others, it has fueled my imagination for new cosplay ideas. I'm grateful.
Someday I hope to actually make a costume from scratch, and feel really proud of myself. For now I'm all right relying on online sellers, and very nice close friends...
