Anime Expo 2008: Please Read.
Posted On 07/17/2007 19:26:52 by Mataku

Dear anyone planning to attend Anime Expo 2008, I must implore for your safety that you plan not to attend.  As you know, Anime Expo 2008 is scheduled to be held in the LA convention center in 2008.  I have had numerous friends and other con goers warn me about the danger of this location.  During a Star Wars convention there were 40 muggings reported by con-goers over the weekend of the convention.  A personal friend informed me that even going to the parking garage was a risk after dark.  I know we all love Anime Expo, and I would never speak badly of the convention itself or it's staff, but I think this change of location was not thought out completely.  There's a petition to change the location located at the following web address.

http://www.petitiononline.com/AX2008/petition.html

I urge all of my friends and fellow convention-goers to please copy this post and post it in their own cosspace blog.  People need to know the situation.. and we maybe able to make a difference, so please.. copy this and post it in your own blog.

Yeah thats really unwise for them to have this con located at this place. Nevertheless, I will still go, only because to have a table at artist alley xD I signed the petition twice already~ though i heard from someone...somewhere...that even if we get the required signatures AX will still not relocate D:

I can't be certain of the source, but I believe someone from the
staff made a statement saying that AX is contractually obligated to the
LACC for 2008 and a hefty fine/penalty would be charged if they
withdraw from the venue. The only other option is to cancel AX
altogether.

Again, I can't give a straight source on this. The
message itself was screencapped and posted on another website. Just
letting you know that a petition may not bring the desired results
regardless of how many signatures you get.
