For a long time my fiance has been way more laid-back about costumes than I am.  He prefers things that are as uncomplicated and inexpensive as possible, and that's fine, I guess.  Most of the time, he'd rather not have a costume on at all.  I did notice the first convention where I was in costume he seemed a little jealous of all the attention I got, but since then he's appeared mostly content to come along while I make myself look silly in public.

Now that we're spending more time with friends who cosplay, though, and planning on going to more conventions, I'm noticing he's starting to catch the cosplay bug.  His fandom is overwhelming him a bit, and he's actually got FOUR costumes that he plans on doing.  And only one of them is really a closet cosplay!  At least one will require serious design and tailoring work, another may require making some armor, a third will call for large quantities of fake tattoos depending on how accurate he wants to get.  I love it.  I'm so excited for him.  I know it hinges largely on the social aspect since he is way more social than I am, and part of the appeal is having a group to go around with and making new friends from shared interests and that sort of thing.  But I know once he gets a great costume under his belt, one where people are running up and complimenting him and snapping his picture, he's not going to be able to resist that appeal.

Oh, Heaven help us both.  Better yet help the children still unborn, for inevitably they will be dressed up as Moogles and crap.

Meanwhile I sketched out a few potential designs for my Shrike plush.  I'm going to start toying with patterns using scrap fabric and materials, but the finished product will be inevitably be a most pleasing combination of cute and scary.

Kind of like me.
