Ranma 1/2 is eating all my cosplay ambition.
This is a little odd, because it's not, in fact, my favorite series. That would be Escaflowne. It's not even my favorite Takahashi series; that's Mermaid Saga. (Not entirely due to my perverse desire to bring an underappreciated and deserving series more love. Ningyo no Mori is dark and scary and atmospheric and probably one of her best works. Go read it now.)
I've discovered in the last six months or so that I have an overwhelming desire to cosplay most of the main cast from Ranma. Multiple costumes, in the case of some characters. Certain costumes from the series have been on my "must do" list for a while. Akane's Juliet outfit probably tops it; Panda-type Genma is another one, though I've always planned on making that for someone else to wear, preferably someone much taller than me. At AE 2006 I organized my first Ranma shoot. The fandom's been creeping up on me--more strongly since the last volume of the manga was released--but it's only recently that I've had this urge to do so many of the characters.
It's a bit of a problem.
Characters I've completed: Ranma, red winter tunic, girl and boy; Akane, winter uniform; Shampoo, first anime outfit and purple Neko Hanten waitress outfit.
Characters I have stuff for (fabric or partly completed pieces): Kasumi, apron and broom; Ryoga, fabric; Nodoka Saotome, apron.
Characters on the planning list: Ranma, pajamas, blue tunic or volume 34 cover version; Akane, gi, Juliet costume, Christmas OVA outfit, Shinnosuke story arc (shorts and jacket outfit or boy's uniform), Doll Inn yukata, and Saffron story arc Chinese outfit; Ukyo, school uniform; Kodachi Kuno, leotard; Nabiki, school uniform (just need wig); Akari Unryuu, first outfit and sundress; Azusa Shiratori, skating outfit; Konatsu, waitress outfit; Pantyhose Taro; Young Cologne.
I always liked the series, but I like it more now that I've been introduced to a wide variety of anime and manga then when I first discovered it. I've found that's true for most of her works. Her characters especially appeal to me; maybe I understand them better then I used to. That could be why I want to cosplay so many.
