Otakon Plans
Posted On 07/08/2008 09:38:16

I've been really wishy-washy about Otakon.  First I planned to make a million costumes for all these different groups.  Then I planned to cut some of those but still go for the whole weekend.  Then I cancelled going at all.  Now I'm back to tagging along just for Saturday with my husband because he's going to be judging the cosplay again for like the fifth year running.  BORING!  Although I may end up doing it too.  Boo!

I'm making one costume and one costume only.  It's to be worn around all day, so it's going to be comfortable and able to withstand 12+ hours of wear.  Because we're probably going to park at our friends' house in the area and take the train into Baltimore, and I'm not lugging a change of clothes around all day.

So I'm making Kallen's Ashford uniform from Code Geass because I'm currently all about that show.  I'm working on the second season now and Kallen's not really in school, but that's OK.  She wore her little uniform plenty of times in the first season!  I might make her first season rebel outfit eventually too, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.  I just think a school uniform would be perfect for the con, plus it could pass as regular clothes if we go get food or whatever.

I think I might, uh, surprise my husband with a Lelouch costume.  Seeing as how he doesn't know what he's going to wear to judge yet.  I might just HAPPEN to stumble upon something for him to wear.  XD  Whatever, he knows how I feel.  I wouldn't kick Lelouch out of my bed, if you know what I mean.

Normally I find CLAMP's work to be overrated, but in this case their designs really seem to fit the series.  Plus the series is actually GOOD because CLAMP didn't write it.  *cough*

That said, the uniforms are all super cute.  Do want.

I've been eating pizza for the past three days.  I'm going to be a huge fatty before Otakon.  THANKS CODE GEASS.

AMA in 6 days!
Posted On 06/07/2008 17:15:44

Soooooooo...I have 5 working days left until AMA and only half of a Valkyrie Skirt.

I also have a kitten on my lap.

TimeSkip Nia = 85%

TimeSkip Simon = 10%

Maya Fey = 95%

Phoenix Wright = 99%

Tokiko Tsumura = 80%

WHAT?!

*sew sew sew sew sew*

I'm considering getting Simon and Nia judged, but it really depends on what time our panel is on Saturday morning.

P.S.  Busou Renkin came out in the U.S.?  When did this happen?  My fandom weeps already.

Obligatory Katsucon Post
Posted On 02/14/2008 07:40:37

I kind of already wrote one of these, but I'm bored.

Katsucon costumes are 100% done!  3 new ones for myself and 3 new ones for my husband.

I'll list  them one more time since a couple things have changed:

Friday:  Toph & Zuko (Avatar)...maybe Nell (BLEACH) later on.

Saturday:  Nia (Gurren Lagann) all day and for the masquerade.  Pretty Sammy after the masq.  Hubby will be Kittan with me as Nia.

Sunday:  Leaving

Since I was specifically asked to bring Pretty Sammy, I may not get a chance to wear Faye v. 3.1 for the first time.  I really wanted to wear it with the alterations I did and the new wig, too.  ;____;  Oh, well!  Maybe if I get up REALLY early on Saturday before Gurren Lagann stuff.  (Yeah, right!)

In the meantime, I think I may be coming down with the plague everyone else seems to have right now.  YAY FUNTIMES!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Katsucon Ahoy!
Posted On 02/06/2008 14:26:15
In preparation for Katsucon and because I have a spare 10 minutes before I head home, I thought I would put my plans down in case anyone is interested in happy costume funtimes.

FRIDAY!  I will be arriving late (probably around 7 p.m.) and will immediately get into Toph from Avatar to host our Avatar-themed karaoke!  PLEASE COME SING SOMETHING!  It doesn't matter if you suck!  I suck, too!

After karaoke, if I'm still awake, I might change into Nell (BLEACH) or Faye (Bebop) for adult festivities.  I.e. drinking my little ass off.

SATURDAY!  I will probably be in Nia (Gurren Lagann) all day!  At night I will probably change into Faye (version 3.1) or whatever again.

SUNDAY!  Screw you guys, I don't like cosplaying on Sunday!  XD

So that's about it.  Again, PLEASE don't be afraid to come participate in the karaoke!  I'm not sure how late we have the room, but I think we have it for something like 3 or 4 hours, so after 10 or 11pm we might try to make it "open mic."  But until then, please provide your own CDs (or iPod or whatever) and only music with an anime or Japanese origin is allowed!  But if I hear too many j-rock songs from bands I can't pronounce and don't care about, I might put my foot down on that, too.  XD

End of Year Cosplay Meme (Image Heavy!)
Posted On 12/25/2007 19:53:39

Merry Christmas, everyone! I thought I would do a little repost here of a meme showing all the costumes I made in 2007. I seriously can't believe I made so many, but I went to like 7 cons this year, too. We won't be doing that again in 2008! I've gone ahead and added more commentary to this post (i.e. criticism of myself) than I had in the original, since you guys don't really know me and the people who could see the original post do know me fairly well.

Anyway, without further ado...

Katsucon 2007

New costumes: Shiori Takatsuki (Utena), Honey (Ouran), "Doctor Lady" (MST3k: Space Mutiny), Xiau-mu (Namco x Capcom)

Updated: Pai

So this costume was made for a big Black Rose group I was able to get together because my friends are awesome like that. I've been cosplaying as Shiori since 2000 and she's by far still one of my favorite anime characters. This was my first attempt at this kind of jacket, and I learned a lot. I hope to make her school uniform and Rose Bride dress sometime this coming year.

Becky wanted us to get a little Ouran group together for Sunday at Katsucon, and I got typecast as the short one! ^_~ It's simple and comfy, and that makes it win in my book! Becky made Usa-chan for me.

"That's Doctor Lady!" This is a joke "costume." If you don't get it, please go watch more MST3K.

Lionel made us some awesome guns, but otherwise this didn't really turn out the way I wanted. I got some hardcore extensions to eventually re-make the wig, and I have to re-make my hubby's undervest and armor bits.

Pai again. Since it was winter and I had last worn it the summer of '06 at Otakon, I decided to put some thick dance tights underneath. Bad idea! It made the bottoms not fit right. My bad. Also, I didn't have time to get her markings painted on this time. I did improve the wig, though, by raising the pigtails up higher, adding extensions for length, and putting "eartails" in the sides to hide my own hair.

Anime Boston

New Costumes: Haruhi Suzumiya, Rukia (Hueco Mundo version), Rin Tohsaka (Fate/Stay Night), Michel Ninorich (Gundam 08th MS Team)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This was 90% hand sewn at my job the day before the con. I ended up wearing it twice. WTF?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Neverending Rukia costumes are neverending. I don't have much to say about this. I made Shirayuki this time.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This was easy. I also had to make my husband's Archer costume, so I was GLAD it was easy!

This is probably vastly inappropriate. Especially for a character voiced by Hiro Yuuki. Oh, well. I'M A BOY!

Anime Mid-Atlantic

New costumes: Schrodinger (Hellsing), Rukia (winter school uniform)

Again with the being a boy thing. This costume used to be my husband's Ichigo rescue cape and is now a jumpsuit with $7 worth of buttons on it. Basically, this costume was made on the fly with spare parts.

That jacket is deceptively hard. Also, short skirt is short.

AnimeNEXT

New costumes: Sasami (Tenchi Muyo!), Ohla (Ys)
Updated: Leona
Re-wore: Rukia's Hueco Mundo and winter school uniform

I was once again typecast as the short one for a group. XD OK, so I volunteered. How could I not, with the awesome cast we had? Cosplaying in the Tenchi group with a bunch of my favorite gals (twice!) was one of the highlights of the year for me.

These costumes were HARD AS ASS! I worked SO hard on them! The patterns on my skirt are hand-painted identically on the inside and outside, and there are patterns painted on the top of the dress that you can't even see because of that cape thing. But I made sure they were there! The wig was originally silver and I hand-Sharpied it to that shade of blue. I also sculpted hair jewelry and pulled a fake flute out of my ass the night before the con. Not to mention my hubby's costume, which was sewn last minute and some of the armor bits were assembled in the room. My parents are also awesome and made the axe for us. I actually tried to get these judged (before my hubby's costume started falling apart XD) but they were full by the time we got there and wouldn't let us enter. ;___; I was super bummed about that, but eventually I want to fix these up even more and definitely improve my husband's costume, and try again.

Just got a new wig. Not much to say here.

Otakon

New costumes: Malin (KOF), Hikaru (MKR)
Re-wore: Sasami

Note: I didn't cosplay very much at this con because I was too busy stalking Seki Tomokazu.

This was another last minute decision. My husband decided he was going to wear Kyo again (although I did have to make him a new shirt), so I wanted a new KOF costume to go along with him. Unfortunately, there are some inaccuracies due to me going by some fanart of the character, and the rushed nature of the costume. Plus I didn't get to make all her weapons.

I had some stress and drama and almost didn't get this costume done, but I'm glad I did! Cosplaying with Sunseenli and Lady Terentia was a big highlight for me because they were so beautiful and sweet! I'd fix this up properly and add some more details and change the way I made the gauntlets and stuff, but ehhhhhhhh. I have other things to do.

Dragon*Con

New costumes: Elektra (black version), Sela (Star Trek: TNG), Megara (Hercules), Spoiler (DCU), Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter), Claire Bennet (Heroes)

Greg Horn cover illustration of Elektra. I had this finished months before the con.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I had a hard time with the shoulder straps staying up. If I had to do it over, I'd definitely make them thicker. Oh, well. Only nerds as truly awesome as myself would know who I am, anyway. ^_~

Note to self: Stop rushing costumes! But I really didn't want to let Yaya down by bailing from the Disney gathering. Plus my good friend Sara was making Aurora.

Meg rules, BTW.

Version #1: Pre-Cloak

Save me, save the world! Ghetto costume is ghetto, but at least I got to smear it with fake blood and set it on fire.

AnimeUSA

New costumes: Pretty Sammy (Magical Project S), Rune Venus (El-Hazard), Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop)
Updated: Luna Lovegood

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I got to use my Sasami wig again and act all retarded with my pookie Ambrosia. GREAT SUCCESS!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Gee, I sure wish I'd had more references to go by. I don't even own the DVDs! ;___; But I got to hang out with AmazonMandy, so that's always a plus! I might fix this up for Katsu '08, but I might also give up on it completely.

P.S. I did my hair inaccurate on purpose. That severe hair-pulled-back thing that Rune wears would look horrible on me. I look better with hair framing my face, so there.

Fake hairline experiment = failure. I'll be wearing this again at Katsucon, but with my wig from 2005. I'm going to re-style it a bit, but overall I think it's a better wig. Then maybe I will FINALLY be happy with a Faye costume!

That cloak is my baby. I cut it out and lined it the morning of the con. I win!

Thus ends this walk down memory lane.

This year proved two things. I go to WAY too many cons and make WAY too many fucking costumes!

All hail 2008! I will only be attending Katsucon, AnimeNEXT, Dragon*Con, and AnimeUSA. Let's see how many costumes I can fit into 4 cons. XD

Uh, what? AUSA pre-con post Take II
Posted On 11/15/2007 09:20:52

OK, well, this is just a cut&paste from my other journal since Cosspace somehow lost the blog I made here a couple days ago about the con.

Friday early afternoon – Luna Lovegood & Harry Potter
Friday evening – Rune Venus (with AmazonMandy, Minakokitty, etc.)
Friday night – “Formal” Luna and Harry for the Ball. I think we’ll probably only go for a little while. Depends on who’s there.

(I had considered bringing back Schrodinger for the Hellsing shoot, but the problem is I pulled it out last night and have managed to completely lose the strap that goes across my chest, the tie, and any white gloves I may have owned at one time or another. So Schro won’t be coming, after all.)

Saturday morning – Pretty Sammy (with Ambrosia and cPhoenix - Lionel shoot)
Saturday afternoon – Rukia (school uniform w/ skit group)
Saturday night – Faye Valentine (with Sari and Ambrosia - Lionel shoot)

Sunday – NOTHING, BITCHES!

I have SO MUCH left to do tonight!  Finishing Pretty Sammy's wand, gotta try to find some shoes to wear for Rune Venus, sew the closures into Sammy's shirt, make Sammy bootcovers, sew Luna's cloak, and find and pack all my parts for Luna!  It doesn't sound like that much, but I just know it'll be time consuming!

Last night I spent an hour cleaning up all the threads and seams inside my Rukia school uniform because I had originally made it at the last minute for AMA this year, just to walk around in, so I didn't care about the craftsmanship.  Now I'll be wearing it for my husband's skit and while it's still not the greatest feat in workmanship ever (I was going to remake it but ran out of time), it'll look much better for if he wants us to get judged so we can be in the running for BIS.  At least I make all my stuff without patterns, so that's impressive, right?  XD  Just humor me.

Anyway, he'd better appreciate me!  It took forever to trim all the hemlines and crap, and my foot fell asleep.  XD

That pretty much sums up everything I need to say!  See you nerds tomorrow!  ♥

End of the Convention Season
Posted On 09/24/2007 12:28:06

With AnimeUSA as my last con of the year, and that being less than two months away, I've been thinking about my 2008 convention and cosplay plans, which will be far less than this year.

My 2008 convention plans currently only include Katsucon, AnimeNEXT, Dragon*Con and AnimeUSA.  So far I only have tentative plans for...

Victoria Seras from Hellsing (hubby as Alucard)

Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender (hubby as Zuko)

Sawa from KITE

Sundance for a My Little Pony group

Tadami from Himiko-den

Enma Ai (kimono) from Jigoku Shoujo: Futakomori

A couple things for D*C that have been discussed with a friend, including another vague Disney costume.  XD

And that's about it!  I plan to keep it that way, unless someone's people call my people and more groups get planned.  But I refuse to overwhelm myself like I always do!

I'm bored, so I just thought I'd put that out there.  At least when I find myself buried under 8 costumes for some con I never planned to go to, I can look back at this and laugh.

No sleep till Dragon*Con
Posted On 08/27/2007 10:07:24

So in between working and getting caught up on all the seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender (I am a recent fan) there is that whole "getting ready for Dragon*Con" thing.  I've been debating whether I should blog about it here, but I've blogged before my other cons so far, so why not?

Progress is as follows:

Sela (Star Trek: The Next Generation

Shirt is sewn, sleeves need some work, straps need to be made, wig is styled.

Megara (Disney's Hercules)

Dress is done.  Wig just needs some minor tweaking.

The Spoiler (DC Comics - Batverse)

Bodysuit is done, cape and hood are done, belt/strap/panties are done.  Just need to finish the bootcovers, make glovecovers, dye the gloves, and add eyes to the mask.

Elektra (Marvel comics, black ninja costume, Greg Horn artwork)

This costume has been done for a million years.  I already packed it.

Claire Bennet (Heroes)

Skirt is done, shirt is 80% done, just need to add the school logo, blood stains, and then set it on fire.

Surprise Sunday Costume

Just need to sew the skirt and make the necklace, and all is well!

And that's it!  It probably sounds like a lot, but it isn't really.  I still need to make my husband's Scarecrow costume for the Batman group, but that's just a messed up tunic and the mask and hat.  (He's doing the comic version, based on a Jim Lee cover we really like.)

We should be arriving mid-afternoon/early evening on Thursday with the caravan/posse.  I don't really have a costume schedule except for Sunday at 2:30 I'll be in Megara for the Disney gathering, and then around 8 on Sunday I'll be in Surprise Costume for an event.

Can't wait!  ♥
