I can has photoshoot?
Posted On 11/24/2008 11:41:21

So, I adore my new photographer.  She's always keen to take new pictures, she's fun to work with, and her pictures are fantastic.  Now that I've found her, there are so many shoots that I want to do!
The main one is a Vampire Chronicles shoot.  I've managed to find all the pieces of my Madeleine gown, now it's just a matter of fitting into it again.  (Working on that.)  I want to have the shoot some time early next year, in the spring when the weather is nice.  I'm hunting out a location, and I'm trying to find people to be in the shoot with me.  I may have myself an Armand, and I may be able to get myself a Claudia.  I would like to have a Louis or a Lestat, but I don't know anyone that would dress as them.  Maybe I can convince Mel to be my Louis.  ~plots~

In other news, there are many Elizabethan and Victorian gowns hanging on mannequins right now.  I have a meeting of the Needleworker's guild tomorrow, where I'll hopefully be finishing, or at least wrapping up, this one gold court gown.  I still have to make the blue gown for a friend of mine, there's a purple Rococo gown that I need to work on, a black and gold bustle gown that needs rehabilitation, not to mention all the actual anime cosplay that I need to work on for A-kon.  YuleCon is coming up, too, but for that I think I'll just wear Integra or Caterina.  I could wrap up Battle!Integra and debut her...nothing quite as fun as tromping around in a new uniform. ^^

Halloween
Posted On 11/02/2008 11:25:31

Been a while since I posted on here! Halloween was a blast.  ^^  I spent the first part of the evening with my sister and her friends...we got dinner at a local barbecue place before going to Hangman's House of Horrors.  The haunted house was surprisingly empty for Halloween night, but I guess everyone had parties to be at. :p

After Hangman's, my sister and her friends decided to go to a party they had been invited to, and I headed off to Dallas for the Halloween party at The Lizard Lounge.  The club was absolutely packed, but I managed to find some friends of mine, and we hung out for the rest of the night.  A couple of us (not me, though!) entered into the costume contest at midnight, but unfortunately none of us won.  :(

By the time the costume contest was over it was already 1:30, so we left the club and headed to Denny's for some breakfast. Mmm...3AM breakfast.

I managed to cobble together a last minute Dark!Walter costume (Hellsing), which seemed to go over fairly well.  The girl in line ahead of me at the haunted house told me that I creeped her out, especially under the strobe lights, so I consider the costume a hit.  ^^

SCA for me?
Posted On 10/08/2008 01:04:33

After much deliberation, I think I've finally decided to join the SCA.  I haven't been to any local meetings, but I've been considering it for, quite literally, many years.  It's time I finally broke down and did it!  There's a meeting of the local populace next month on the 5th, and I'm going to go and get my first taste of it.  There's a meeting of the needlework guild before then, but I'm a bit too shy to just jump in with both feet like that. ^^;

In other news, I am nearly finished embroidering the new bodice for the green taffeta monstrocity!  I made the gown in haste before Scarborough last year and it turned out terribly, so I've finally ripped the thing apart so I can put it back together.  I'm making an entirely new bodice for it with tabs and caps and all sorts of fun stuff, and the skirt needs to be taken apart, flatlined with muslin or something, and put back together in a respectable waistband.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the forepart yet, but I need something new.  When I originally wore it (don't kill me) it was just a square of unhemmed (for shame!) fabric that was pinned onto my farthingale!  ~dies~  I can hardly bear to think about it; I can't believe I wore the wretched thing out in public!  I'm surprised I didn't just burn the entire thing, but I'm a bit too cheap broke thrifty to just toss aside an entire gown.

Anyway, the embroidery should be finished by the end of the week, and once I have the spare cash, I'm going to order the trim for the rest of it.  I need to try a second crack at an attifet and a French hood, since my first attempts at both ended in failure.  Mmm...French hood.  *_*

Middlefaire!
Posted On 09/26/2008 21:46:15

Huzzah, Middlefaire!  I'm so excited to go to a Renaissance festival again, it's been months and months!  I -was- going to try and finish this one gown I'd been working on, but there was too much left to squeeze it all into one day, so I decided to wear another, also unfinished gown.  Hey, it looks allot better than the other dress, and it's practically finished except for a little bit of detail work here and there, so I'm wearing it.  :D

If anyone is going to Middlefaire in Hillsboro, Texas, I'll be wearing this gown and should be arriving at around 11 or 12 o'clock.  If you see me, feel free to say hello! :D

Post-con Cosplay Motivation!
Posted On 09/01/2008 20:16:08

Hmm...back from A-fest, and now I'm looking at my cosplay list with less of a "huh...well, it'll get done" attitude, and more of a "holy hell, I need to get on the ball!" attitude.  I think that tomorrow I'm going to take what little con money I have left and buy the supplies I need to get back to work on Ashlotte.  Pieces of her are lying all over my room, the garage, under the table in the living room....it's time to get her finished up.  I was well on my way before I ran into a block on the armour.  I'm going to finish it, dammit!

Caterina needs to be finished, as well.  After nearly 2 years working on this bloody costume, I'm ready to be done with it.  Thankfully, it's probably at about 65%, so it shouldn't take too much longer.  Though, I may have to go back and outline all the scrollwork on the panels with bugle beads to give it a more finished look.  I'm not sure if I want to be that neurotic about it...it would sparkle so nicely if I did do it, though...

I'll need to make Ingrid, which should only take a day or two, and I need to start on Saber from Fate/Stay Night.  Horray for more armour!  Calamity Jane needs to get underway since there's so much bling and detail work, and since I'm practically making my friend's Bloody Mary, which is basically the same costume, I'll need to work on them almost 24/7 to get them finished in time for A-kon next year.

I'd also like to get Lulu done by A-kon, but I may leave her for A-fest next year, since my plate is already pretty full.  Rociel, as always, seems perpetually on hold.

Buh...I just remember Eise Hexe...must make Eise Hexe...hopefully for A-kon, if I can manage it...maybe A-fest for her, too.  A-fest seems to be my debuting con, for some reason...

Looks like I'll have to finish one costume every month if I plan to have everything by A-kon.  Ye gods.

Can't stop, addicted to the shindig! A-fest '09 Con Report
Posted On 08/31/2008 18:28:33
Okay, so the con was freakin' amazing! I never expected to have such a good time or for so much stuff to be going on. Here's the rundown -

Thursday
After spending the night with Mel and heading out early Thursday morning, we arrived, checked in, and settled into our rooms with minimal hassle. The hotel was dead. I guess because the only other con I really went to was A-kon, I expected there to be more A-fest goers there already, but the place was practically deserted. (Save for the mass exodus of well-dressed business people, who apparently had had their own convention at the beginning of the week, and had to be told about the nerd convention heading their way, and why all those strange people were walking around dressed as cartoon characters.)
Anyway, we decided that since we had a couple of costumes that probably wouldn't be recognized or get allot of attention, we decided to get all trussed up and head downstairs to take pictures of each other. While we were poncing around, getting great pictures in the nearly empty hotel lobby, we were pulled aside by a professional cosplay photographer and he had us pose for him. ^^ Turned out that that photographer was none other than the fantastic SkyPirate. I went into immediate fangirl mode when I found out...~cough~
Anyway, after that we ponced around, took more pics, and then SkyPirate pulled us aside again for more photos! ~squees~
That was pretty much the end of Thursday. We tried to register Thursday night, but the computer system was down, so we just hung out in the hotel room the rest of the night.

Friday
Friday was...a little hectic. Since we could only get a double room for Friday and Saturday, we had spent Thursday night in a deluxe room. Most of Friday morning was spent switching luggage to the new room, checking out, checking in, and attempting to register. Whatever computer problem registration had had on Thursday night still hadn't been fixed, so we had to do a little bit of dancing...while one stayed in the registration line, the other would move their luggage, then come back to hold the place in line while the other person moved luggage. It was a bit of a hassle, but it all went relatively smoothly. Registration was finally procured and we hit the dealer's room, where baubles were procured. And smut.
At 4:00 was the Lolita & J-fashion photoshoot, which Mel and I both took part in. We took some pictures inside, some on the terrace, and then trekked across the street to the water fountains and took more pictures. It was hot, it was humid, but we all looked fantastic, so it was okay. I'm really looking forward to seeing pics from that shoot, since they had a really nice photographer.
Immediately afterward was the Lolita dinner at the Italian restaurant that was in the hotel. It was fun to see the girls from the DFW Lolita group again, since we hadn't been able to attend any events lately. We ate, we talked, we ate some more. Huzzah!
After dinner we headed back to the room for a while. I had to be at the Hellsing photoshoot at 9:00, so I showered, changed, and then headed down. It was a really nice group, lots of people showed up! We headed downstairs into the basement entrance area for pics. Surprisingly, I was the only one dressed as Integral, so I got take a bunch of fun Alucard/Integral pics. Bwahahaha! Unfortunately, my camera chose that time to spazz out uncontrollably (it kept telling me the lens cap was on when I turned it on...but it has never had a lens cap...didn't even come with one... O.o) so I ended up missing some of the shots, but I did manage to get a few, and the rest I'll snag from other people that were at the shoot. :D
I went back to the hotel room and hung out for a while after the shoot while Mel dressed for the Midnight Masquerade Ball. (I stayed dressed as Integral. ^^) We headed down at about 11:45. The Ball itself was...allot like a prom...we did the macarena, we danced to Thriller...we did the Time Warp. And there was the Safety Dance. Oh, the Safety Dance. It was hella amusing to watch, though. :D I pounced on an Alucard that was in the room and we danced together. Mel and I left briefly so I could take off my mask and put my Integral glasses back on, and we popped in briefly to the Rave, which was...um...yeah...so we went back to the Ball, where the beautiful Artema was there in her formal Integral. We watched people danced and played with the balloons. :p

Saturday
Saturday was rather laid back. We ponced around the dealer's room, bought more smut, and headed back to the room in the early afternoon to change for the Lolita Teaparty. We made it to the party in time, but not early enough to get a seat with the rest of the DFW Lolitas. :( But, we hung out after the party was over, so it all worked out. ^^
The party itself was...well...rather like an AA meeting. They wanted everyone to stand up, talk about their outfit, why they liked Lolita, how they got into the fashion, etc. And since everyone had to be quiet while someone was talking, it was a little like being in church. I was expecting...I don't know...something more...but it was still fun. We took allot of photos afterward, hung out and talked with friends, so it was definitely worth it.
We changed back into cosplay and headed back into the fray, snagging pics of good cosplayers and hanging around artist's alley. The dealer's room closed at 6, much earlier than we thought, so we missed out on buying more smut trinkets, but we had fun poncing aimlessly.
We hit the Masquerade contest at 9:00, catching the last 1/2 hour or so of Ramen&Rice in the process. They are a violin/cello duo that play anime and video game songs. The music was really beautiful, and the crowd was really into it, cheering wildly when a favourite song was played.
The cosplay this year was split up into two nights - Saturday was the Masquerade, or the walk-ons. Walk on, strike a pose, strike another pose, exit stage right. Quick, sweet, and we don't have to suffer through any mind numbing skits. Those are for Sunday. Anyway, the Masquerade was great. Kyle and his group won Best Group Performance for their awesome poses! Mel and I are talking about entering our planned Calamity Jane and Bloody Mary costumes into next year's Masquerade, though she and Casi might do a Street Fighter group. Dunno yet...planning continues.
Anyway, at midnight was the yaoi/yuri cosplay dating game, which was really freakin' halarious. Seeing Pyramidhead as a Bachelor had everyone rolling in the aisles, his answers were awesome.
"Bachelor No.3...blondes, brunettes, or redheads?"
"Oh, I don't know, everyone looks the same on the inside."
He kept on singing "raaaape" randomly whenever the other bachelors were talking...then, at the end, he humped the contestant. It was absolutely hilarious.

Sunday
Last day at the con. Mel and I had packed most of our stuff the night before, so all we had to do was load up the cars. It took me three trips, across the hotel (we were on the far side of the building), down the street, and across the remote parking lot. Even though we were parked as close as we could get, it still took a good 15 minutes each way. I began loading up at 9:30...I was finally finished at 11:00. ~dies~
Once we were all loaded up, we hit the dealer's room again and bought still more smut manga...I actually found a booth where they had Dany&Dany manga! AND THEIR ARTBOOK! ~squee~ I bought everything. Bwahahaha!
At some point, Mel and Casi went to check us out of the hotel room and ended up disappearing for a good hour or so. I gave up on looking for them after a while and ended up running into Kitty and Kyle again. We hung out on the stairs, eating Mochi ice cream and melon bread and being geeky. Mel and Casi finally showed up again, and we headed out to Denny's for lunch before all heading back out separate ways.

It was an awesome weekend, I still can't believe how much was going on. I've come to realize that I like A-fest allot more than I like A-kon...it runs more smoothly, there are more events going on that I actually want to go to, and all the big stuff doesn't overlap. I was much more excited for A-fest than I was for A-kon, too.
Not to say that I'm not already planning a zillion and one costumes for next A-kon....

Decisions, decisions....
Posted On 08/22/2008 17:28:49

It's been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd update.
A-fest is less than a week away and everything is still in the "nearly finished" state.  Buttons, zippers, lace, etc still need to be added to...well, everything...but I can't seem to get off my lazy ass to finish it. But, since the house may actually be empty this weekend, I may get the umph to finish everything off.  Za.
In other news, I'm debating whether or not to cosplay Jane Judith Jocelyn.  I love military uniforms, and I love Trinity Blood, and while I still love Rosenkreuz and have a couple more of their uniforms on the drawing board, this one seems a nice departure from my usual love of villains.  The fact that she's human and not a villain is actually a strike against doing it, but the costume is so fantastic that it makes up for it.  Plus, the character kicks ass.  So, I need opinions...do the costume, or no?

Hopefully should have some new pictures up after A-fest.  I'm going to be part of allot of different events, so hopefully someone snaps my picture during the weekend. :p

Last minute additions
Posted On 07/27/2008 00:50:57

Well, things for A-fest are finally get wrapped up.  The Lolita dress I started working on the other day is nearly complete, I just need to go out and buy this particular sort of lace that I want to use on it.  I'm really pleased with how it's turning out, it's so cute!
OVA and Battle Integra are both finished now, as is my Orden uniform.  I never did make Ingrid (Street Fighter) like I intended to make, and I'm not sure I'm going to attempt it before the Con.  I was never really enthusiastic about the costume in the first place, and I don't really feel like making another costume now.  :-/  I'll think about it for a few days before I make a final decision...it would be nice to be part of a large group.
Should start packing up in the next week or so, mainly costumes and accessories.  I have my emergency sewing kit, first aid kit, and repair kit all ready to go already. ^^

After A-fest I think I'm going to tackle the gigantic mess in the garage and try to get my sewing corner back.  I was supposed to get my sister's room while she was gone, but then she moved back a month after leaving, so that plan went completely out of the door. :-/  It'll be good when I finish school and can finally get a job that pays well.  Job = house.  House is good.

Ooops!
Posted On 07/23/2008 20:24:01

Waah!  I completely forgot about the Lolita and J-rock photoshoot at A-fest until someone posted an update on Cosplay.com.  x.x  I was going to make an entirely new outfit for it, too.  At least there's still time.  I have the fabric and the pattern on hand, and I still have a month or so before the con, so I'll definitely be able to get it done.  I'm excited for it, too, since it'll be my first Lolita bustle skirt.  I'm sort of tempted to make it a little bit steampunk, but I think I'll restrain myself.  :p  I just can't believe I forgot!

In other news, both versions of Integra are done (except for one zipper, but that won't take long), and I'm just waiting on my wig to arrive to be able to take pictures. ^^  I'm very excited to cosplay Integra, she's just such and awesome character.

I'm already halfway packed for A-fest.  :p
