Last week I got some of the best news ever. I have to give a shout to Angie & Karen for doing something I just have no words to describe how %$^@ & awesome it is. I can't say what it is but they know.... I owe them big hugs and kisses next time I seem them. You rock girls, you really really rock.
P.S. Karen and Angie: My co-worker now thinks I'm hilariously funny with the way I carried on when you called.
On the costume front something arrived for me this weekend:
I've always wanted a white wig. I was kinda meh about it at first but after putting on the right color shirt and messing with how it lays in front I think I've taken a liking to it.
Which reminds me to get my ass on the treadmill tonight.
Gabi out.
-----------------------------------------
Now that it's been announced I can say what it is.
Angie and Karen called me to tell me they booked Reuben Langdon for Anime Festival Orlando.
Now check back 2 blogs and see what I was talking about. Especially at the end....
I think I must be going through my early 20's late cause I've been doing new, strange, and occasionally odd things.
Last weekend I was digging though the clean clothing for something black. I found my cowl neck tank and a red scarf. Well it also just happened one of my favorite driving gloves showed up next to my bike chain bracelet. Long story short I passed by the mirror and realized I looked like I belonged in a fighting game. I had to take a pic.
This Friday I popped in Peter's red contacts he bought but never touched. Well, I popped in the left one. The right eye was all NO! So that one had to come out.
But I am glad I seem to tolerate them just fine. I would like some nice natural dark green ones so it would suck if I couldn't wear them at all.
------------------------------
Also managed to break my cell phone and finished the vest that everyone voted on in this pic.
Dull side won remember? I'll have pictures of the finished one being worn at some point.
Now if anyone has been paying attention to those status updates you might know that I am a DMC fan. But as I am sure no one pays attention to those I'll tell you,
I am a Devil May Cry fan.
About 2 months ago I went out and got myself DMC4. Then right before I finished it this happened...
So then I had to wait about 2 weeks while they replaced it. While I waited Erik lent me his DMC novella which was rather good actually.
Once I got it back I went back through all the levels and then finished it. I haven't enjoyed a game that much since Metal gear 3. The voice work was superb, the motion capture glorious to watch, and I think I fell in love with the clothes.
Last night I went back to unlock stuff and I actually got my first S rating. Look at that, demons couldn't frakkin touch me and I took no damage. Then I accidentally got my 2nd S rating on level 19.
Also, the second ending sequnce was so cheesy I LOVED it. The music was also right up my alley. See some lyrics from the closing song below. I am very much looking forward to DMC 5.
I like to cosplay from things I love this much but there isn't anyone I can look like. So I might have to get creative. I've very much wanted a long white wig for a some time so I think I have enother excuse to get one.
Now to somehow get Reuben Langdon (Dante's voice and motion capture actor) to a con I am going to.
They will see. We'll fight until eternity. Come with me. We'll stand and fight together. Through our strength we'll make a better day Tomorrow we shall never surrender.
When the FX show was in town I went Saturday and Sunday.
We ended up parking what had to be a mile away from it. No I am not kidding. The parking had just filled up and we had to go to another lot where we had to walk to another convention center, walk the length of it, cross the overhead walkways, then walk 1/3 the length of the convention center to get to FX. Peter wasn't changeing clothing, but I was. So I had to walk it 4 times in some uncomfortable leather boots.
That's why I hurt like exercise in my last post.
I don't usually get much but this year I found some nice things and gifts too. Above: Picture with the tall, courteous, cute Nathan Fillion. When I walked in to meet him I said, "Wow, you're so tall, I didn't know." He smiled and said, "I was going to say the same thing about you." At that moment this face was appropriate ^_^. The Firefly book is also signed.
Sailor Moon Jewelry Box. It was like $16 and I couldn't resist. When was I going to see something that obnoxiously pink and terrible again? PLUS it came with hair clips, 2 necklaces, bracelet, and a comb. HAHA
Life magazines from 1968 and 1971. Not pictured is another one with Audrey Hepburn on the cover. That one was a gift for a friend of mine who LOVES her. The Coretta Scott King one is for my father. He loves things like this. Interesting point of fact: My brother is a chef. In her last days in the hospital he was the chef for her vegetarian meals.
Crystal Palace reprint! This is a reprint of the ridiculously lovely engravings from the famous Crystal Palace in England that burned down in the 1930s
I had a grand time. Lots of friends were there and loads of Firefly fans. They are always very vocal and funny. I met some silly girls who were very vocal about what they would so with so and so celeb at the con.
I wore the Dr. Steel thing first:
Zoe to meet Nathan on Saturday: As I was leaving he said "Very nice job, on all of that." I think I died a little hearing him say that I was so struck. I went back Sunday in Funeral Zoe for a picture. That's when he commented on my height.
Now for more pics:
Nathan met a fan that wanted him to ride around on her scooter. He happily zoomed away while I was talking with some people about 20 ft away. He went zooming right by and we were laughing so hard we couldn't talk. His handlers looked horrified which only added to the hilarity. He was away for a full 5 minutes. Eventually someone on the PA told you to look out for him lest he run you over. He visted Adam West's table while on the scooter. When he came back I managed to shoot that pic with my dying camera. Everyone appluaded his return and the PA system announced he was back.
Chris brings the debauchery. Everyone loves sum Power rangers.
Nice! Spider man and Black Cat.
Ghostbusters. The one on the right grabbed me at the after party for swing dancing. Turns out he's an instructor and wow was he good. I was flung all over the place.
And we aren't done without a little Batman in there.
Finally a little video of Goldar asking Tommy the power Ranger a question.
I should be working on a last minute Megacon cosplay but I have been distracted by this:
I got that brown houndstooth fabric a couple years ago at discount with the idea to make various suit pieces out of it. I got as far as an office dress and had all of this left over. Some 9 yards... Oh and check out that liner fabric next to it. I can't believe it's in the same scale houndstooth pattern, in brown, and with velvet brown vines scrolling up it. WTH, I cannot believe it was in the red tag section a couple weekends back. I digress...
Then the JoAnne Fabric was closing and I got this sweet coat pattern for .25 cents: I'm doing the one shown by the blue variant but with cuffs. Best part is I'll have 5 yards left over after the coat to mess around with for steampunk.
More le Awesome. Wood train case with leather trim and brass studs found at my fave decore store for $14. I am going to use it for steam punk purposes.
I've been busy. I made this for some cosplayers I don't know. But the pictures they took were hilarious and they said they didn't know how to make them into a gif so I did. Just in case you didn't know that's Miaka and Tamahome from a now classic anime called Fushigi Yuugi.
Went to an AFO meeting and there were some good ideas being tossed about. Again I'm all for more cosplayer fun so we will see how that goes.
The dull side if the vest fabric won the polls and that is in the works. It would have been worked on if I spent more time at home this weekend. After work, went to a JoAnn Fabric that was closing. Nearly nothing was left. But they did have .25 cent patterns. I picked up a few.
I'm going to victorian up that night gown pattern. And I LOVE that coat pattern. The collar is all cool. I plan on making a short peacoat sized one. The big silver wings Peter found on another jaunt to another JoAnne while lookin for more red zippers. Which brings me to...
Replaced the zippers on his Dr. Steel uniform and sewed down velco for the patches. Thumb nail is small cause picture is HUGE. Click for hugeness.
Also went there to find Kente Cloth. But for some odd reason they didn't have any. Hell, I couldn't even find the african dashiki pattern that's usually in the pattern books to point to the fabric I was looking for. But I did find some batik that could be used. I need the cloth cause I am playing with the idea of my steam punk outfit having an African flavor. Speaking of using my skin as a costuming device...
Found these laying around the internet:
Looks like The Princess and the Frog will have a few fun things for me to make :D
I am about to begin work on another vest and I thought I made up my mind to use the shiny side but now looking at it the dull side might be the one to go with. It shows more detail in photos.
Keep in mind I plan on wearing this with jeans. But of course I also cosplay and this can end up in a costume down the road.
Last year Karen and Erik invited us to something called ICE! Apparently the Gaylord Palms flies in dozens of Chinese ice sculptors, then cover a 1/4 of their giant parking lot in 9º F weather via tarps and uber air conditioners. The Chinese guys get to work making massive ice scultptures and finally the staff hands you a giant blue parka and it's a winter wonderland time.
This year we urged Peter's parents and his brother's family to join us cause we had such a good time before. The wait was like 40 times longer cause we went the weekend before Christmas. But it was still fun. Our various body parts went numb by the end. Last year we went ice skating (I didn't fall on my butt once!) but the wait tired us out so much we skipped it this year.
Prepare for picspam! but first...a video.
Here's a couple images from last year:
And I close with a video of the candy ice house and giant ice cream.
I really urge anyone to go visit. It's a really nice way to get into the holiday spirit. If you are from up north and miss the feeling of a numb nose ICE is a great way to remind yourself of why you moved to FL.
Oh and did I mention the ice slide at the end?
I suggest going the weekend it opens though. Way less people.
