During the next 2 months I'll be going to a cosplay event almost every week! I'm including a couple of European countries in my travels, wish me luck!
Romics (Rome, Italy) Oct 4-7
I'm going thanks to my dear friend Valeria ^^ Will be competing with a surprise costume, so excited! Hope to do lots of sight-seeing and pig-out on pizza and ice-cream while I'm there
Birmingham International Comics Show (UK) Oct 13
Wish I could have been at FACTS in Belgium this weekend but my friends wanted to go to this one and I'm running out of time and money lol
London MCM Expo Oct 20-21
For once I'm not working so can spend time with my friends! Hoping to compete in the masquerade too.
Collectormania 12 (Milton Keynes, UK) Oct 26-28
I'll be responsible for the cosplay at this event so please come along! Since it's that time of year expect a masquerade, Hallowe'en party and lots of gore-themed events
Chibi Japan Expo (Paris, France) Nov 2-4
I'm looking forward to visiting Beryl and some of my other friends in Paris Unfortunately it means I'll be missing the Bristol Manga Expo and Manga City in Rennes, but had already booked my ticket to France before the expo was announced and can't afford the additional train fair to Rennes..
Collectormania Gmex 3 (Manchester, UK) Nov 17-18
I'll be the cosplay co-ordinator for this one too. We'll be having a masquerade and panel so if you're in Manchester area hope to see you there
TBC: Eirtakon (Dublin, Ireland) Nov 23-25
I'm supposed to go to this convention as a dealer, but will depend on availability of time and money..
...and it's driving me mad to know who it's from! Aggh ok it was probably a joke, but it makes me wonder if there's someone going around the site sending them randomly to wind people up lol
I just heard that France have won the World Cosplay Summit 2007! The winners were Isabelle and Damien as characters from Alichino.
I feel so happy and proud, because although I'm from the UK, our country does not yet have a place in the WCS, and if there's any other country I feel an affinity to regarding cosplay, and was rooting for, it has to be France. My costumes may not be as elaborate or beautiful as that of the average French cosplayer, but I visit French events regularly and the majority of French cosplayers have been nothing but welcoming and friendly towards me.
Secondly, Isa visited London Expo last year when I was helping to judge the competition. She didn't even place (shows how much I know!) but she made the effort to visit our country with a beautiful costume and presentation, and on top of that she speaks impeccable English.
The last (but certainly not least) reason is that I have met Isa and DamDam and found them to be such a genuinely nice couple! Last February I went to a small convention in Saint Lo, Normandy, as an exhibitor. I came completely by myself and only knew one person (Blitz) who I had met briefly at London Expo when she came together with Isabelle. That weekend many people made feel so welcome that by the last day of the convention I felt completely at home! I was so grateful to them, and Isa and Damien were two of those people.
So I just want to say congratulations to both of them, they honestly deserve it! I can only imagine how proud they must be and the adventures they'll have as a result of this.
Allez France!
My friend Wing is a character designer. One of her designs was used by a company called Tokyo Toys as their mascot and on their t-shirts. I just found out that the other day her t-shirt was worn by one of the contestants on the TV show Big Brother!
For those of you who live outside the UK it might not seem like such a big deal, but here Big Brother is the most popular show on TV, watched by millions of viewers!
I feel so proud for Wing, especially as the reason she started designing for that company was because they saw the cosplay mascot designs she made for me when I was working with MCM Expo. It was nice of her to make the designs so I'm glad something good came out of it.
You can see the t-shirt here: http://www.tokyotoys.com

I can't believe Hironobu Sakaguchi is coming to France and I may have the chance to meet him! I will be working at this event, which means I get in before it opens, so I hope I can get a ticket for the signing...
As for the other guests at this event, I hope to meet Hiroyuki Takei (creator of Shaman King) and I'm sure my friend will want an autograph from Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo). I also found out that Junko Mizuno is coming! I interviewed her before in London and we got on really well so I'm looking forward to seeing her! I hope she remembers me ^^;
I'm entered in the masquerade on the Saturday! (wish me luck). The competition at Japan Expo is always so fun, they put the girls on before the boys so that we can all scream at them from backstage! LOL But I'm nervous because I'll be competing against my friend, and her outfits are always so good.. She wouldn't even tell me which character she's doing!
Saturday (7th July) will also be my birthday, I'm going with some French and English people to Dragons Elysees restaurant (a Chinese restaurant with aquariums built into the floor and walls). I'm disappointed that my friends who I had hoped would come can't be there, but I'm still excited about the Expo since SO much is happening and you can't beat meeting Hironobu Sakaguchi (okay maybe if it was Yuji Naka or Tetsuya Nomura ;p)
I'll try to get together for a proper birthday celebration with friends when I get back...karaoke?
