I've kind of been on a forced cosplay hiatus since Otakon. I've started to work on my Momo Hinamori Shinigami Academy costume, and have the hakama almost completed, but then came to a complete stop. After lots of work, a vacation, and supporting a non-anime con (gasp- scandalous!), and I might finally be able to start back up again. I also have the wig, which is mostly styled already. woot. Not much to report. I'm feeling a little distanced from the online cosplay community, mostly b/c of time and some slight indifference. I really enjoy costume construction and con-going, but I don't know if I have the energy to both have an online presence and create good costumes. Look for me at Anime USA this year! I'm thinking Momo, Ty Lee, a secret cosplay, if I can get my act together, and one of my old standbys. Not that anyone reads this, but are there any requests for what I should wear?

Woot- I finally manged to get a dress form for a decent price! After several weeks of lurking on ebay and craig's list, I managed to snipe myself a decent dressform in good condition. Its no Uniquely You, and I'll have to pad the waist (darn you square torso!), but its less than retail, and I have better things to spend my money-like cosplay fabric! I'm super psyched about this because so much of my pattern making involves poking myself with pins. I think this will drasticlaly improve the fitting of my outfits, especially the tops. Yay dressform!! I now just need to find a place to store it. Have a eureka 7 pic in celebration!
I think it says something about the combination of heat, massive numbers of people, too many events and cosplay randomness that gets me so drawn out after Otakon. I haven't even thought about cosplay projects until a few days ago. I'm thinking of possibly Shinobu from Ninja Nonsense (with beau T as a Sauske- his second cosplay debut!) or maybe a character from .Hack//. I still have some "major cosplays" hanging in the back of my head, but maybe I'll just go to modified short kimonos for while. I can do that! Oh, and feel free to add me as a friend. Though if I haven't met you IRL, please shoot me a note first saying hi! Here's ty lee doing a chicken dance for your viewing pleasure.
I'm such a dork.... For some reason, I like learning how to use obscure Microsoft products. Work likes paying me to learn this stuff, even if its not in my exact job description.
Anywhoo, in May, I whipped up a Ganntt chart, showing all the tasks I had to do to complete Ty Lee. Interesting that shortly after I made this I STOPPED WORKING FOR 2 MONTHS! But as you can "clearly" see, I have exactly enough time to complete everything before Otakon (the diamond at the bottom) comes.
Ask me at the end of the weekend if this was true Why can't I work faster!!
Now, though, I'm off for partying and games!! wooo
home again, jiggity jig!! I'm back, and in a semi-clean apt, too, thanks to quick bag and drag efforts yesterday. (having people over is a great cleaning motivator) Anyway, I've started working on the top for Ty Lee. I'm waiting for cosworx to send my base wig (its been a week now!! stupid AX/Independence day..... ) but otherwise, I'm taking things easy. As long as the top goes smoothly, I should have Ty Lee done by next week, and I won't be up crazy late before Otakon.
This year, T. and I will be staying near BWI, rather than commuting an hour back and forth, and you certainly can't beat a king sized bed and breakfast for $80/night!!
I'm really sad, since I'm still on business travel, and I found out our family dog just died..... (i sound like a fricken county song) :( But I'm realizing that Otakon prep time is running really short, and I should be buying my Ty Lee wig + extensions. (why I haven't yet? I don't know!) I'm thinking I'll be buying the same color wig I used for Fuu/Gidget, since that dark brown looks good on me, and it fits w/ Ty Lee. It should get sent so that by the time I get home, I can start working on stubbing + making the long braid.... If you have suggesions about the color, leave a comment below (I have see a gidget photo in the gallery)
At Katsucon, some very nice people encouraged me to get a LJ so they "knew I was alive"... and while I did manage to find a few of their blogs, I've never gotten around to opening one myself, especially since if I did, it would pretty much just be cosplay related. I'm currently in the middle of Texas on a business trip, planning out my still unfinished Ty Lee costume for Otakon. Ideally, I'd have a .hack cosplay planned, or would have bought my final items for human R. Dorothy, but my very....slow....progress means that I'll be lucky just to have one new costume done. If you've seen me at the virgina-maryland-dc con circuit, the stuff I'll bring to Otakon will be very familiar. (though I probably will retire Robin out of sheer heat stroke)
I also need to figure out what is my next hall competition costume! (ack)
