So! A friend of mine is forming an Angel Sanctuary group for Katsucon! We’re hoping for a decent turn out, since AS is now undercosplayed. Thus, I’m trying to spread the word around as best I can! For more information on the group, see the official AS for Katsucon ’09 thread on cosplay.com found here: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=159780 *crosses fingers* Forming a group isn’t easy. ^^()

So it has come to my attention that I want to make a cosplay group for the incredibly unheard of series: The Heroic Legend of Arslan –or- Arlsan Senki. Wow. That sounded a little like an ending to a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode! XP But yeah. It’s sad when I want to cosplay from a really good, old series that is practically unheard of. No, it’s not that no one will recognize me. I get that 90% of the time as it is. My issue is that when I want to start a group, NO ONE knows of the series. Which goes back to the ‘practically unheard of’ statement... Blasted people! Indulge in more old school anime and manga, ya young whippersnappers! I mean, I know mainstream is easier to come by, and often times is a lot better in terms of plot –mostly because the themes have already been done several times by now-, but I find the characters in some older anime are richer. Note, I’m not saying all old anime is good, or even that they all have great characters. But if one thinks about it, some of the old anime were mainstream at one point –for a REASON! I find it a little sad when a Slayers cosplayer walks around and only veteran anime fans or veteran cosplayers know the character at all. =( The same could also be said about old video games. Fire Emblem, anyone? Chrono Trigger? Xenogears? Secret of Mana? Anything that ISN’T Final Fantasy or Zelda…? And now that I’ve done my rant, I’m in the mood to just nose dive into older anime and video games. And since I technically have nothing but free time until after Nekocon, that’s what I’m gonna do! X3
So now that AMA is over and done with, I’m trying to set cosplay aside for now and focus on some other things. Though, I can’t set it fully aside since I have Otakon to go to and whatnot. I already have a room, I just need to struggle to figure out which costumes I’m bringing/making for it. I’m thinking one Kurai and Malik Ishtar, but the third costume is up in the air since cost is just as much a big factor as time. I want something easy, comfortable, yet still has a little…. ‘umph.’ XD I’m thinking of doing my GaiaOnline avatar (Kiss.Of.Folly) for all the white and red goodness… I dunno, I seem to like being covered from head to toe in make-up and such. So in the meantime, I have so much to work on. Hikari (my beautiful five-string bass) has been collecting dust and feeling really lonely. So I’ll hopeful get some practice in. Plus my deviantart account has been untouched for quite some time and is in serious need of an overhaul… And I’ve got some oneshot comics that need planning, sketching, inking, screentoning…. CREATING! .< I’ve been slacking waaaayyyy too much…> I’m also thinking of playing Lord of the Rings Online again… Or WoW… Or EQ2 since I’ve never played it… But that’ll have to wait until after the thousands of hobbies sucking up my paychecks cease their sucking. =P
Blahhh! Anime Mid-Atlantic is only a little over a week away and I still have a lot to do! My Freya Crescent costume is so close to finishing; I only need to finish the triton, and decorate a pocket. I love this costume so much and I can’t wait to wear it! It’s just going to be incredibly hot… I also have to finish my mallet for Shizuko. I had planned to give her a sword, but I think a mallet works just a bit better for her. I really want to get a group together to go with the cosplay idea surrounding Shizuko. Basically, it’s a bunch of pedigree animals that have reign over areas of the world; Shizuko controls Okinawa. But then the concept turns into a fighting game/Dead or Alive when some of the animals try to take over other territories. Enemies become reasonable allies and friends become reputable foes. Love, betrayal, action, comedy; the whole nine yards! But… yeah… enough of that. XP I also have to finish my anbu black ops costume, and hopefully get most of my partner’s costumes finished –since he’s taking forever to work on them! .< I wouldn’t be so crazy about finishing his costumes if it weren’t for the fact that I paid for the materials…> Sadly, I have so much to do, but I don’t really have much of a motivation to do any of it… But I really want to have all three of my costumes finished this time, since I only had one costume done for Nekocon last year. I hope I get everything done! *crosses fingers*
Ehg… Lately, all of the manga I’ve been reading are cute and funny, like Pretty Face, Welcome to the NHK, Chibi Vampire, Vampire Doll, +Anima, and I’ll even add xxxholic to the mix. I’m starved for really good, really deep manga with wonderful and well-thought out characters, a complex but understandable plot, gripping character interaction, and perhaps a bit ‘pretty.’ Honestly, I’m looking for Fushigi Yuugi meets Angel Sanctuary or You Higuri teaming up with Clamp. I dunno, I guess I’m a little burned-out on ‘ha-ha’ manga and I’m in the mood for something serious. Maybe something either set in an older timeline or just an older manga. In other news, I’ve been considering cosplaying Pirotess from Record of Lodoss War… She was such a fierce character, plus loyalty has always been an aspect that I like in characters; particularly loyalty to the point of giving up one’s life. Her character design is also quite gorgeous, and I’d be incredibly happy if I were able to find an Ashram to cosplay with. (Possibility = Zero) Of course, the only issue I see is the fact that… well… I’m not the most physically ‘blessed’ girl around, so I’m not sure if I’d be able to pull her off justly. Granted, I can always do the goddess version… but trying the normal outfit poses a nice little challenge. XP And now I’m in the mood to re-watch the anime; which is bad because I’ve been procrastinating on making a pair of gloves… I hate them so much and I have yet to be fully successful in making them. Blah!
Sooo.... I'm quitting my job today... and since I really, REALLY hated it, I'm not putting in a two weeks. True, it would be bad if I needed them as a reference... But since I didn't work there very long, I'm probably not going to put them on my next applications anyway. So hopefully I can get a part-time job and fill the gap with art commissions. *crosses fingers* Good news is, Freya is well on it's way. You can view my make-up test shots in my gallery and on my cosplay.com account (Sabarae).
