Corrupting Impressionable Minds
Posted On 11/06/2007 15:04:14

I had a non-cosplaying anime fan friend from college, Melody, over recently to watch El Hazard, an older anime that she hadn't seen yet. We never got around to seeing the show, since I introduced her to cosplaylab.com and she decided to look through every Slayers costume ever made. After that, she wanted to see the Evangelion ones-- we looked at all of them! It took almost all night.

She mentioned that she always wanted to have Asuka Langley's yellow sundress, which is quite possibly the easiest costume to make. I showed her a pattern she could buy, where to find fabric, and where to find wigs and shoes for the character. I think I just got her into the hobby!

I've been in a bit of a cosplay slump recently, so helping Melody make her Asuka dress will be just what I need to encourage me to start sewing again!

Halloween, Weight Loss, and Ranma 1/2
Posted On 11/02/2007 12:23:01

Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope all of you had a fun-filled Halloween and ate lots of candy!

I spent Halloween at the Winchester Mystery House, dressed in the Enma Ai kimono I made for Anime Expo 2007. To my surprise (and horror, since this costume cost me a FORTUNE to make) I had lost so much weight thanks to my finally getting off my butt and working out that the kimono was way too big! The 60 or so flower decals my boyfriend and I ironed on actually go over the seams, so taking it in just isn't going to happen. Oh well, at least I'm thinner now? Despite the fact that this costume is kinda frumpy and baggy-looking now, I finally got a couple of decent photos of it!

With college being... well, college, and my striving to keep my fabulous GPA fabulous, I just don't have time for making ambitious costumes or competing at cons anymore. This gives me an excuse to make some fun and simple costumes and just run around and have fun! Since I saw the show way back when dirt was new, I've been dying to make Girl-Type Ranma from Ranma 1/2. I managed to rope my friend KT into making Boy-Type Ranma, so that should be fun! I discovered that my boyfriend hasn't seen Ranma 1/2, despite the fact that he loved anime since Space Battleship Yamato was the latest and greatest show (yes, he is old ;))! After we remedy this, I'm going to have him choose the character he wants to be (I hope he picks Kuno...).

Halloween Cosplay

After AX, I found the perfect obi for my Enma Ai kimono! I was so
thrilled, since my repeat attempts to make a good, stiff obi were
pretty sad. I hope to get pictures of it during Halloween, but I'm too
busy with college and work to snap any good pictures until then.

I heard that we're all celebrating Halloween at the Winchester Mystery
House. I think that will be a lot of fun, with all of us in our Jigoku
Shoujo kimonos! People who have no clue what cosplay is will think:
"Oh, they're geisha-girls for Halloween!" and people who do... still
probably won't know who we are, but oh well.

Jigoku Shoujo is one of my favorite shows and the kimono turned out
beautifully, so I am happy to be Enma Ai, even if nobody recognizes me.
:)

Kimonos

I'm in the process of making my first-ever kimonos for Anime Expo.
One of my cosplay groups, Nekoyaki, decided to take me up on my idea to
make Jigoku Shoujo costumes, and I'm really excited to be Enma Ai! I
think I might be too cute to pull off such a beautiful, creepy
character, but I will try my best. I'm using the Folkwear pattern,
because people in Sakura Mochi, another of my cosplay groups, swear by
it as the most authentic pattern available.

I never realized how easy it was to make kimonos! I'm starting
to wish I made more earlier in my cosplay history, instead of trying to
tackle darts and set-in sleeves and princess seams!

My boyfriend, Kane, just finished making the print shown on
Enma Ai's first season kimono in Adobe Illustrator, and it is
beautiful! I'm so excited!

Happy costuming, everyone! Hope to see all you AX-people at AX!

 Love to All,

 Rosie

Hello Cosspace!
Posted On 06/08/2007 21:36:52

My friend Sundari_Chan told me all about this, so I thought I'd give it a shot!

What do I want to say about myself here? Let's see... I'm a
joyful Californian college student whose academic and professional life
has
nothing to do with anime and cosplay, so I can keep work and play
separate. I started cosplaying only 4 years ago, when my friend Thea
convinced me that I ought to give it a try, and I'm very glad she did!
My first costume was Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7, since she was
a strong female character that I admired.

My tastes in anime
and video games are extremely varied, but I tend to cosplay what I
like, be it a charcter I just love or from a show I find entertaining.
So if you're wondering what I like, take a look around my gallery! :)

When I make
costumes, I go for quality over quantity, so my gallery is pretty
small. I really hope that you like what I have made! Happy cosplaying,
everyone!

Love to All,

Rosie Angel
